We're hoping to try the full Rally Raid Products EVO2 and tank kit soon, but in the meantime, a quick fix to add some extra range to our 2014 KTM 690 Enduro R project bike was adding a rear rack and a 1 Gallon Rotopax. We decided to try a rear rack from Nomadic Racks.
The installation is very straightforward, as it uses the same mounts as the rear grab handles. You do have to increase the diameter of the fairing holes to accommodate the mounting hardware. When we picked up our 690, the grab handles were actually not installed by the dealer, so we drilled out the fairing and bolted the rack straight on.
The Nomadic Rack comes pre-drilled to accept the Rotopax twist mount, which makes the rest of the install very easy. We had a slight concern with the amount of weight the rack could support, but the load limit is listed at 15 lbs, which should be ok for our purposes.
The extra gallon of fuel should extend the range by about 50 miles or so, depending on your gas mileage. So theoretically, we now have a total range of 200 miles or so, which provides some extra reassurance on longer distance rides in remote areas, where fuel is harder to come by.
